Thomas Carey is a member of the firm’s Life Sciences Practice. Tom specializes in recruiting senior-level healthcare leaders, particularly board directors, CEOs and chief financial officers, as well as commercial, business development and clinical development executives. He brings almost 20 years of executive search and life sciences industry experience to his role.
Before joining Spencer Stuart, Tom spent nearly a decade at another leading executive search firm, most recently as co-leader of its global healthcare practice with primary responsibility for North America. Previously, he led the firm’s pharmaceuticals and biotechnology practice in the Americas for many years.
Prior to entering the executive search industry, Tom served as CFO of both private and public healthcare and information technology companies. He was most recently CFO of Notara, a private business-to-business Internet-based software company. Previously, he was CFO and vice president of corporate development for a publicly traded medical device supply company. Earlier, Tom served as CFO and board director for the healthcare venture fund Pappas & Associates. Before that, he was CFO and a founding manager of Energy BioSystems Corporation, which he took public with Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown. Tom began his career as an investment banker in mergers and acquisitions with Kidder, Peabody & Co.
Tom received his B.S. in physics from the College of the Holy Cross and his M.M. in management policy from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
