Based in Singapore, Chan Wai Leong is responsible for Spencer Stuart's Technology, Communications & Media Practice in Southeast Asia. His areas of focus include communications service providers, wireless, equipment and software, mobile devices and cloud computing. He is also responsible for the Supply Chain Practice in Southeast Asia (covering manufacturing, supplier management, logistics, procurement, etc.
Wai Leong came to the firm from SAP, a global enterprise software company, where he was vice president of public services for Asia. In that role, he led the company's regional drive to grow the software business in government, healthcare, higher education and defense, partnering with global and regional systems integrators. Before that, he was the managing director of the company's Singapore operations, where he worked with CIOs and CEOs in government, telecommunications, media and technology manufacturing sectors. At SAP, Wai Leong was involved with a Logistics project at a Defense Ministry and a Supply Chain project for a major Japanese Consumer Electronics across Asia Pacific.
He previously served as vice president of business development and strategy for Asia Pacific at a global computer company with direct, retail and reseller channels. Prior to those roles, he was a principal at Booz Allen Hamilton, focusing on technology, strategic planning and operations improvement. With another consulting firm, Wai Leong also consulted with telecommunications companies in the United States, based out of Washington, D.C.
Wai Leong holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering as well as an M.B.A. from Cornell University. He is a native of Malaysia and speaks English, Malay, Cantonese and some Mandarin. Wai Leong and his wife have three children, and they reside permanently in Singapore.
