Greg Welch is a key member of Spencer Stuart's Consumer Goods & Services Practice. He served as the global practice leader from 2006 until 2011, when he stepped down so that he could focus 100 percent of his time on his clients. He is a member of the Marketing Officer Practice, which he helped to launch in 2002, as well as the Board Services Practice. Greg joined Spencer Stuart in 1998, following a successful career in sales and marketing. In his last role prior to Spencer Stuart, Greg served as customer vice president for sales and integrated logistics at Nabisco Foods. Additionally, he brings previous experience in classic brand management, field sales and trade marketing with Colgate-Palmolive, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Nestle Foods Corporation.
Prior to assuming his practice leadership role, Greg led the firm's 80-person office in Chicago, where the firm was founded more than 50 years ago. He has also served as a member of the firm's nominations committee and was a recipient of the firm's annual Lou Rieger quality award. His personal areas of focus include consumer goods manufacturers, restaurants and a broad range of retailers. Greg's diverse client list includes companies like Wal-Mart, The Hershey Company, Nike/Converse, Beam Global, Harley-Davidson, Brooks Brothers, Citibank, Sundance and Caesar’s Entertainment, to name a few.
Greg has performed more than 500 searches since joining the firm and is recognized as an expert in the recruitment of CMOs, CEOs and board directors for consumer companies. He co-founded the M50 marketing group, created Spencer Stuart’s annual “CMO Summit,” and has been featured on CNBC television, in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek. Outside of Spencer Stuart, Greg is personally involved with a number of nonprofit organizations, both in the U.S. and Africa. He serves as a director at TCG, a private organization which designs and implements nonqualified executive benefit plans. He is also an active board director of Rush Hospital Orthopedics and involved with Breakthrough, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of inner city families.
Greg holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and completed the Cornell Food Executive Program. He also sits on the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Indiana University Kelley Business School.
